Troubled Waters

Strongly held convictions about baptism require strongly held convictions about love and unity and humility… and participating together as we remember and rejoice at what Christ has done in them and in us.

What happens to the person being baptized? (I am His)

A symbol (indication) of an inward change of heart. A command, a proclamation, and a testimony that one has been regenerated (repentance and an active faith).

Matthew 28.19
Acts 2.37-41
Acts 16.32-34

What should happen to the people watching a baptism? (He is mine)

Rehearse - We can "see" the gospel acted out.

Remember - It stirs and strengthens faith as we remember and identify with the Lord who saved us. Romans 6.3-8

Rejoice - The amazing truths of passing through the waters of judgment safely, of dying and rising with Christ, and of having our sins washed away, are truths of momentous and eternal proportion and ought to be an occasion for giving great glory and praise to God. – Wayne Grudem
