How to Handle Life

Colossians 2.8-15

Keeping current with the "original" is the best defense against flirting around with the "supposed" competition. Christ easily takes on all comers.

Adding to the gospel is subtracting from it (verse 8)

Any teaching that in any way detracts from Christ's exclusive role is by
definition both wrong and ineffective. – Douglas Moo

He is already more than we can handle! (verses 9-15)

God – in Him (9-10)

In him, and in him alone, God has decisively and exhaustingly revealed himself. All that we can know or experience of God is therefore found in our relationship with him. – Douglas Moo

Since Christ is the fullness of God and believers are in him, they have all the fullness humans can ever possess. – David Garland
Dead, buried, raised – in Him (11-12)

1 Corinthians 15.3-4
Romans 6.1-11

Life by death – with Him (13-14)

My sin, oh the bliss of this glorious thought
My sin, not in part, but the whole
Is nailed to the Cross and I bear it no more
Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord, oh my soul

God's victory – in Him (15)

He can handle anyone and anything

Do we believe He can handle people, demons, governments, hormones, genes, sickness, habits... and us?

We can handle Him

Are we grabbing God by the hand and finding joy in the middle of the waves after a hurricane?

Some questions for caregroup

Why does Paul take them back to the gospel and to the God of the gospel to protect them from deception? How does that work for us? Our children? Our grandchildren? Our friends?

Are you current with Christ? How does keeping current help us handle life? Why?

We get to "handle" Christ! How do we keep from forgetting this? From becoming man-centered with this wonderful truth?
