Crime and Punishment

Genesis 34

1. Bad people can do good things (1-12).
2. Good people can do bad things (13-31).
3. God can use evil for good (Genesis 50.20; Acts 2.22-23, 36-38).

Have you ever had your "sense of fairness" offended when God seems to act in ways you don't understand or agree with? If so, how did the sermon speak to that?

Have you ever had your "sense of justice" offended when God seemed to show an unreasonable amount of mercy or patience to someone? If so, how did the sermon speak to that?

How has God "used sin sinlessly" in your life?

Have you "done the right thing the wrong way" recently? How did God use your actions and attitudes to accomplish good in spite of you? How did God lovingly discipline you so that you would grow more into the likeness of his Son? How did you get past the guilt of what you had done?

When speaking about salvation, why would we say that mercy is not injustice?

When you are sinned against, what does "merciful justice" look like? Is there ever a time for "mercy" only?
