Joseph and Potiphar's Wife

Joseph and Potiphar's Wife
Genesis 39
Big Idea: From Palace to Prison, God is with us.
.......From Palace to Prison, God is with you!

1. Consider that the God with Joseph is Yahweh.
2. Consider that in your palaces and prisons, God is with you in an even greater way than he was with Joseph.

In your prison moments, remember:
1. You are not forsaken
2. You are not separated from God’s love
3. Your eternal life is secure

2.       What is the most challenging or compelling portion of Joseph’s experience in Potiphar’s house, in your opinion?
3.       What reasons made the sexual advances of Potiphar’s wife particularly tempting to Joseph?
4.       How did Joseph resist this incredible temptation?
5.       Do you think Joseph struggled to believe in the goodness of God during this season of life? Why or why not?
6.       What is the significance of the repetition of the name “The LORD” in this passage?
7.       In this account, who tells us the LORD is with Joseph? Why is this important?
8.       Are you in a “palace” moment right now? What expressions of God’s kindness are you most keenly aware of?
9.       Are you in a “prison” moment right now? Is it something you can share with the group?
10.   Are you aware of God’s presence with you? Why or why not?
11.   In what ways is Jesus like Joseph? How is Jesus greater than Joseph?
12.   What is the difference between being in a “prison moment” (trial) and being forsaken by God?
13.   What promises of God can you recall that help us remember that we are not forsaken, even if life feels like a prison?
14.   What does it mean to us that Jesus came as a man, dwelt among us, died and rose again? What does that mean for us as we “rise and fall” in life?”
