A Life of Grateful Love to God

Hebrews 13:1-6
Matt Rawlings
April 7th, 2013

"Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe..."
(Hebrews 12:28)

Main Idea: Gratitude to God is displayed in a life of love for God.

1. Gratitude to God is seen in loving your siblings
"Let brotherly love continue."
2. Gratitude to God is seen in loving stangers
"Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."

3. Gratitude to God is seen in loving the imprisoned and mistreated
"Remember those who are in prison, as though in prison with them, and those who are mistreated, since you also are in the body."

4. Gratitude to God is seen in loving marriage
"Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous."

"Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)

"But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.” (Revelation 21:8)

"Outside are the dogs and sorcerers and the sexually immoral and murderers and idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood." (Revelation 22:15)

5. Gratitude to God is seen in not loving money
"Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'"

"But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils."
(1 Timothy 6:6-10)

“No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money."
(Matthew 6:24)

6. Living in love for God is possible because of God.
“'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'” So we can confidently say, 'The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?'”
