Sunday's Sermon Points & Application Questions

Scripture Text: 1 Peter 5:8-11
“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 9 Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world. 10 And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. 11 To him be the dominion forever and ever. Amen

God wants us to live strong in our faith as we look to Him in hope

  1. We must watch our lives
  2. We must stand in faith
  3. We must wait in hope

“The call to resistance does not summon believers to do Herculean acts on God’s behalf. Believers are not encouraged to gather all their resources to do great works for God. No, resisting the devil means that believers remain firm in their faith, that is, in their trust in God. Believers triumph over the devil as they continue to trust God, believing that He truly cares for them and will sustain them until the end. Perseverance until the last day is accomplished from first to last by faith” – Thomas Schreiner
